A new letter from Spencer!

Hey mom how’s it going? I hope all is well!

Well, this week things have gotten a lot better! Tuesday we had a good lesson with two new investigators named David and Liz. They live right next to some other recent converts that we have. We had a very good 1st lesson with them and set a baptismal date on the 18th! Now before you get to exited they have a lot of work to do… (not to mention getting them to come to church.) They gave us rides to general conference; because in our zone we are having a "car fast", however they didn’t come in and listen with us ha-ha.) Were gonna help them as much as we can and I’m exited! Also we are teaching another guy named Josh who we had a cool experience finding. We were going to tract around a fallen through appointment when a guy mowing his lawn came up to us and started talking to us. He said he knew we were mormons and he knew of all the good work we do around the world. Then he referred us to talk to a certain man who lived on that block. He didn’t really want to hear us out, but he had very high respect for us anyway. Well we go over to knock on the door that the man referred us to, and nobody answers..that was a little disappointing but we continued to tract anyway. The next door we knocked at a woman looked outside the window, shook her head and didn’t answer ha-ha ; pretty typical. Well, after that we saw a young man biking to the house that was referred to us just a little while earlier. He went in the house and upon going in my companion said let’s go knock it... reluctantly I decided to do it with him. So we knocked it and the young man answered! We were able to talk to him and he gave us his number to call anytime we wanted to meet with him. It was so cool to be a part of this miracle. The Lord prepared the field well in this case :). Anyway Josh went to one session of conference and were going to call him today to set up another time to visit him. We also just yesterday found another young man named Steven who came up to US and said that he FELT he needed to talk to us :) We have an appointment with him on Tuesday. So things are going! Slow, but going ha-ha. Friday we had zone conference.. it was ok... not really too special. I just didnt feel it at all in this last zone conference, but i did love General Conference!! It really seemed like the Brethren focused a lot on family which is good. Anyway that was great.

Elder Flittton

I just miss him...I can't believe he is going to be 21 in a few weeks! He also told Jeff that he felt the earthquake a few days ago. Yikes! He has just about 14 weeks left on his mission! We can't wait to see him!

So glad I pay tithing! What a blessing to witness how our offerings are helping others.

Cinnamon Rolls and Conference...

Twice a year instead of getting all dressed up in our Sunday best, we get to stay at home and watch church at home via satellite. It is so fun to just cuddle and eat our yummy treats and be inspired by amazing people who love the Savior and teach us how to be better people. Our sweet Prophet Thomas S. Monson

Another Miracle...Jon Huntsman

I am part of an online adoption group and came across this post. Not doubt the Lord's hand is invovled. Jon Huntsman learned Chinese while on his LDS church mission. Is this great or what!

RQ, I don’t mean to upstage you, but would like to offer a few personal thoughts about Governor Jon Huntsman’s appointment as ambassador to China, without being political at all. Let me say I am quite qualified to make this assessment.
Governor Huntsman is a different party than President Obama and so clearly this is not a political appointment. In my opinion there may have never been a more qualified pick for this position in the history of the United States of America.
Governor Huntsman speaks fluent Mandarin, in the fullest sense of the word. He has lived and traveled extensively to China and led trade missions to China. He has a deep understanding of China on both a cultural, political and business level.
He is former ambassador to Singapore. He knows and is on a first name basis with many of China’s leaders. I believe they look at him very favorably. I know Jon personally, and he is smart, highly capable, honest and fair, and wants to do the right things for the right reasons.
Perhaps most important to us in the adoption community, about seven years ago, Governor Huntsman adopted a little baby girl from China.
Finally, there is no more important partner in the world at this time than China, for the U.S. We must have a friendly and willing partner in China, as she continues to gain power and influence in the world. If any U.S. citizen can make a difference in the role as U.S. Ambassador to China, it is Governor Jon Huntsman.
I believe President Obama pegged it perfectly in his announcement of his pick of Governor Huntsman. He pointed out there is no more important diplomatic position in the world than ambassador to China at this time, and that there is no one better to do the job than Jon Huntsman.

Mormons, Mormons everywhere...

My camera would not cooperate, but those fuzzy people are the twelve apostles and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir; their recordings don't do them justice. It was amazing.
Here is the conference center, 84,000 Mormons attended this weekend. 4 sessions holding 21,000 people at a time.

We have arrived home from our trip to Utah. Jeff and I are both from Utah and have never really thought to visit during Conference weekend. It is something we took advantage of while living there, and didn't realize what an impact it would have on our children. We try to get home once a year to keep in contact with the family. This visit we happened to be able to attend the temple sealing of one of my best friends Katie and her husband James! Congrats! We were also able to meet Elder Kukuchi of the 70's. What an amazing humble man! I can't begin to explain all the spiritual experiences we enjoyed. We definately needed it! We were also able to get tickets to General Conference on Sunday afternoon and see the prophet speak. We were amazed at how many Mormons there really are. Living outside of Utah, we are so outnumbered, it was fun for the kids, side note: Kylee noticed all the nice looking Mormon boys. That made me laugh. Here are some pics.

Spencer Update! 090208

Well, I hope I am not being redundant posting information regarding Spencer, I don't know who is writing him and who he is writing. I plan on updating every so often.

His latest letter had a sister missionary write "hola" to our family, and he had to explain. I thought that was cute. He says he has fallen in love, no it's not that kind of love, but a love for the scriptures! He is getting many answers and he says its amazing! He says that he is learning how to feel the spirit more accurately in his life. He was taught that when you are living worthily and doing everything you can, to just trust your thoughts because 9 times out of 10 that is the spirit. He further explains that if you are living the way you should the spirit and you should be on the same page so just trust your thoughts... He is also excited because he is now the oldest in his district and all the new missionaries look up to him. He is so excited to get to LA and start tracting, and teaching about the gospel! He leaves for LA in 11 days!

In other news, my sister's husband Steve is getting baptized!!! This month he faces a difficult neck disection for cancer, but on October 11th he will be getting baptized and we are so happy for him and their family. There are so many blessings that come with living the gospel. I believe the most important being peace and happiness regardless of our trials.

Her parents belong to our church and have written in such a beautiful way what we all believe, and you would be missing out if you don't take a look and their last few entries, specifically August 31st. You will understand the peace I write about when you read their words in the face of what they are dealing with...

Our prayers are with them, my sister's husband and family and our son Spencer.
