You may wonder why this is such a big deal to us. Our concern is that these activists will take their frustrations out on Spencer. He is always dressed wearing his missionary clothing and tag, which could make him a target. Please pray for his safety and for other missionaries there.
This vote protects churches nonprofit status, and also protects churches from being sued for not performing same sex marriages. Can you imagine churches having to accept homosexual unions in order to not be discriminatory? That is what is at stake here.
Yes, I am concerned about Spencer too. I heard on the news that the Catholic Church is backing the LDS Church here in SLC as well as in California. They put out a statement agreeing with the LDS stand against gay marriage; they too do not condone gay marriage.
